How To Replace the Air Filter in Your Subaru Vehicle

At Hassatt Subaru, we want you to be familiar with the ins and outs of your Subaru vehicle so that you know when it needs attention and what you need to do to correct it. While there are services that you should trust to professional Subaru mechanics, your air filter is something that you can change at home! While it often goes overlooked, the air filter is something that plays a crucial, albeit simple role in the performance of your vehicle. Your air filter protects your engine from dirt, dust and other debris, and when it gets too dirty, it fails to do its job and can end up damaging your engine. To help ensure that doesn't happen, we're going to clue you into how you can change your air filter today!

  • First thing you want to do is pop the hood of your vehicle and locate the airbox which is usually located on your passenger side right behind the headlight
  • You need to open the airbox by undoing the two clips holding it together
  • You should be able to pull apart the airbox enough to locate and pull out the old air filter
  • You'll be able to clearly see the difference between your old air filter and the new one based on the cleanliness and color difference alone.
  • To put the new air filter in, you'll want to again pull the airbox apart enough and make sure that the orientation of the new air filter is the same direction as it was when you took the out.
  • Now just put the clamps back on the airbox to shut it tight again and you're good to go!
